چکیده

We compare four spacecraft attitude control laws that require no prior modeling of the spacecraft mass distribution. All four control laws are based on rotation matrices, which provide a singularityfree attitude representation and unwinding-free operation without discontinuous switching. We apply these control laws to motion-to-rest and motion-to-spin maneuvers. Simulation results are given to illustrate the robustness of the control laws to uncertainty in the spacecraft inertia. For motion-to-rest maneuvers about a principal axis with bounded torque, we compare the settling time of the inertia-free control laws with the time-optimal bang-bang control law operating under known inertia. We also investigate closed-loop performance in the presence of attitudedependent torque disturbances, actuator nonlinearities, sensor noise, and actuator bias.

A Numerical Comparison of Inertia-Free Attitude Control Laws for a Spacecraft with a Discrete Flexible Mode

Structural flexibility in spacecraft can degrade the accuracy of the attitude control system. With this motivation in mind, we compare the performance of inertia-free attitude control laws for a spacecraft with an undamped discrete flexible mode and demonstrate robustness with respect to unmodeled spacecraft dynamics and actuator saturation. First the equations of motion are derived using Lagra...

Torque-saturated, Inertia-free Spacecraft Attitude Control

Torque-saturated control laws for spacecraft attitude control are considered. These control laws require no knowledge of the mass distribution of the spacecraft and thus are inertia-free. We examine two specific problems. In the first problem, the spacecraft has an arbitrary initial attitude and angular velocity, and the objective is to bring the spacecraft to rest with a specified attitude. In...

Robust Attitude Control of Spacecraft Simulator with External Disturbances

The spacecraft simulator robust control through H∞-based linear matrix inequality (LMI) and robust adaptive method is  implemented. The spacecraft attitude control subsystem simulator consists of  a  platform, an air-bearing and a set of four reaction wheels. This set up provides a free real-time three degree of freedom rotation. Spacecraft simulators are applied in upgrading and checking the c...

Inertia-free Attitude Control of Spacecraft with Unknown Time-varying Mass Distribution

Attitude control of spacecraft remains a challenging nonlinear control problem of intense practical and intellectual importance. Since rotational motion evolves on the set of proper orthogonal matrices, continuous control must account for the presence of multiple equilibria, whereas discontinuous control laws based on quaternions and alternative parameterizations of the rotation matrices lead t...

Robust and Adaptive Nonlinear Attitude Control of a Spacecraft

In the context of the initiative Formation for Atmospheric Science and Technology demonstration (FAST), this dissertation describes the design and comparison of several nonlinear attitude controllers for TU Delft’s micro-satellite. The control requirements include robustness against model uncertainties and disturbances. To this end, five Backstepping schemes are selected for comparison: Standar...
